Undying and Unending are paintings conceived of while moving through a period of deep feeling, a romantic break up. I stumbled across a book about Rodin's artwork, and was reminded of how much I loved visiting his museum in Paris and, especially, seeing his sculpture "The Kiss." The piece is so sensual and delicate, yes also completely immovable and concertized forever. This dichotomy deeply resonated with my emotional landscape - feeling deeply and forever impacted by the intimacy I experienced with this person, yet now all that is left is the memory. Yearning to sculpt Rodin's sculpture with my paint, I was able to channel this sense of passion and tension through expressive brush marks, and colors dancing between both figures. I was able to bring the more abstract brushstroke language I typically use into the world of realism. It's as if they are alive and in unending, longing relationship.
