What is Shiatsu?

Zen Shiatsu is a Japanese style of bodywork rooted in the meridian system of Chinese Medicine - much like acupuncture, but without needles. It is beneficial for a wide range of concerns, from acute and chronic pain, to sleep and digestion issues, anxiety, trauma healing, and cultivating overall harmony and well-being. Shiatsu relaxes the muscles and the nervous system, creating space for healing on all levels - mind, body, and spirit. Anyone can benefit, whether you’re navigating chronic health challenges or simply looking to feel more balanced, Shiatsu brings us closer to our truest selves - awakening, strengthening, and activating our body’s natural healing powers.

Each session begins with a verbal intake to understand your holistic health history. Treatment plans are tailored to goals we set together. Sessions involve gentle yet firm pressure - applied with thumbs, hands, elbows, and knees - along the meridians, as well as assisted stretches. Treatments take place on a futon mat or massage table, with the client fully-dressed in stretchy, comfortable clothing. While many clients notice progress after the first session, depending on the depth of your situation, weekly sessions may be recommended for three weeks, six weeks, or longer.

My healing philosophy is rooted in the belief that the mind, body, and spirit are inseparable. Bodywork sessions focus on somatic education and nervous system regulation, in order to support the body's innate healing processes. Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic or acute discomfort, improved internal organ function, or deeper emotional balance, this work gently invites a state of deep relaxation and helps release both physical and emotional held patterns. Each session begins with getting to know your unique story, with treatment guided by goals set together.

Offering a welcoming space for all identities, I view my work in the healing arts as a form of resistance. It is a privilege to practice a lineage that - in a society built on stress and dis-ease - has the ability to connect people to the present moment and closer to their true selves.

“I am always thankful when I receive shiatsu from Eden. They have a foundationally gentle way of interacting with people which they bring to their shiatsu. They listen well, both to what I say verbally and to what my body says that it needs. My whole being can relax during a shiatsu session with Eden, knowing that I can trust them and that I will feel so much better, both during and after the session.” -Ruth J

“Eden made me feel super comfortable and looked after. I felt an immediate improvement in my mood, energy levels, and chronic digestive issues after receiving just my first shiatsu treatment. In our other sessions she continually demonstrated not only her knowledge, but deep care for the body and clients. Highly recommended and will continue to seek treatment from her.” -J.R.

“Working with Eden was an absolute gift and a total surprise for my nervous system. I can’t get over how intuitive, intentional and strong they are. They were so generous with their time and their ability to walk me through a care plan with gentleness and clarity was masterful.

I went to Eden struggling with chronic physical pain, issues with digestion, trouble with sleep and difficulty with jaw pain and tension. After just one session I started feeling relief and after a few months of treatment every one of the issues I came to Eden with had improved: I was sleeping better, digestion issues and jaw tension had stopped and my physical pain throughout my body had nearly vanished.

I can’t recommend Eden enough. Do yourself a favor and invest in caring for your body. Eden will put you on the path to recovery and equip you with a variety of tools to care for yourself long-term.” -Gabriel C-P-G
